FDA: SGLT2 inhibitors tied to risk of serious genital infection
Patients taking SGLT2 inhibitors for diabetes are at increased risk of Fournier's gangrene, a rare but potentially deadly infection that can affect the tissue around the genital area within several months of starting therapy, according to the FDA. The agency has identified 12 cases of the infection between March 2013 and May 2018, including one death.
